Many of the ideas in these poems have lived with me for years. They come from my own experiences, observations, memories, questions, and reflections. Some have taken decades to form and continue to evolve as I learn and grow.
I have discovered that poetry can sometimes express an idea more powerfully than pages of prose. A single poem can carry a thought, a feeling, or a question that might otherwise take many pages to explain.
Writing poetry, however, is not one of my natural strengths. I often know exactly what I want to say but struggle to find the rhythm, rhyme, and structure that allow the message to flow.
For that reason, I use ChatGPT as a writing partner. I bring the ideas, memories, themes, arguments, experiences, and direction. ChatGPT helps me shape those ideas into poetry, suggesting rhyme, rhythm, and wording while I guide the meaning, revise the drafts, accept what feels true, and reject what does not.
I do not see these poems as ideas generated by artificial intelligence. Rather, they are my own reflections expressed with the assistance of a modern writing tool, much as another writer might work with an editor. Every poem is refined until it faithfully expresses what I want to say.
My hope is that these poems invite thought rather than agreement, conversation rather than conclusion, and perhaps encourage readers to look at familiar things from a fresh perspective.
