About Dinah

A life shaped by people, practical responsibility and deeper questions

I have always been interested in people.

My background is broad and a little unusual. It brings together sociology, government and tribunal experience, business ownership, disability support, complementary therapies, spiritual study, reflective practice and many years of direct experience with people in real-life situations.

My perspective has been shaped across different worlds.

Academic study, formal systems, business responsibility, practical support, complementary approaches and lifelong spiritual inquiry all inform the way I see people and situations.

Background, study & perspective

Understanding people from more than one direction

My interest has never been confined to one profession, one theory or one method. I have always wanted to understand human behaviour, social systems, responsibility, meaning, healing and change—and how these ideas meet the ordinary realities of life.

01

Social sciences

I hold a Bachelor of Arts with a strong grounding in sociology. My early university studies also included criminology and philosophy, strengthening my interest in human behaviour, social systems, ethics, responsibility, meaning and change.

02

Government & tribunals

Earlier in my working life, I worked in Consumer Affairs, beginning in Residential Tenancies and Small Claims tribunals before moving into a senior officer role with management responsibilities.

03

Business ownership

I have also been a company director and business owner, including running a boat hire business. This gave me direct experience of responsibility, risk, customer service, decision-making and practical problem-solving.

Working within formal systems taught me how process, conflict, fairness and responsibility affect ordinary lives. Running a business taught me what it means to make decisions, carry risk and keep practical things operating.

Both experiences helped me understand that good intentions are not enough on their own. People also need clarity, sound judgement, workable processes and thoughtful action.

Complementary & personal development training

A long-standing study of healing and transformation

Alongside my formal and practical background, I have spent many years studying healing, consciousness, spirituality, personal development and human transformation. I have always been interested in the deeper patterns underneath human experience.

Clinical hypnotherapy

Hypnothink Foundation, United Kingdom

I qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist specialising in Past Life Regression through the Hypnothink Foundation, where I studied under Ursula Markham, an author of many books on hypnotherapy.

Heal Your Life

Workshop leader training

I trained as a Heal Your Life workshop leader in the United Kingdom under Patricia Crane, who continued Louise Hay’s work internationally.

Root Cause Therapy

The Centre for Healing, Melbourne

My further training includes Root Cause Therapy through The Centre for Healing with Melissa Hiemann, co-founder of The Centre for Healing.

Reiki & wider study

Usui Reiki practitioner

I became a Usui Reiki practitioner in the early 1990s and have also studied other approaches to healing, spiritual practice, personal transformation and reflective self-understanding.

These studies have not been separate from life for me.

They have shaped the way I listen, think, question and notice patterns—and the way I understand the connection between a practical problem and a person’s deeper inner experience.

Spiritual & philosophical study

Lifelong inquiry into truth, healing and change

Spiritual study has been a lifelong part of my development. I have explored Christian Science, A Course in Miracles, Buddhism, New Thought, spiritualism and other approaches to consciousness, healing, prayer and inner transformation.

Christian Science A Course in Miracles Buddhism New Thought Spiritualism Prayer & consciousness

I do not see these as labels to hide behind. I see them as fields of inquiry that have deepened my interest in truth, perception, responsibility, compassion and the nature of change.

I am especially interested in the meeting place between spirituality, practical life, complementary approaches and human care.

Practical human experience

Grounded in the ordinary circumstances of life

My background also includes many years of disability support and community-based support work. This has kept my thinking grounded. It is one thing to consider healing, change, spirituality or human behaviour in theory. It is another to be with people in the real circumstances of everyday life.

Homes & routinesThe practical settings in which life has to be lived
Tiredness & griefTimes when ordinary things require far more effort
Paperwork & appointmentsSystems and tasks that can become difficult to navigate
Family pressureRelationships, responsibility and competing needs
Uncertainty & clutterWhat builds up when a starting point is hard to find
Practical decisionsChoices that need calm attention and workable action
A steady presenceMoments when someone simply needs another person beside them

This experience has taught me to respect the ordinary.

It has also taught me that ordinary things are often not ordinary at all. A room, a task, a decision, a pile of papers or a conversation can carry much more than it first appears.

The thread through my life

How people find clarity, meaning, healing, courage and direction

The whole personI am interested in the person, not only the immediate problem.
Inner life & outer lifeI notice the ways our inner experience and practical circumstances affect one another.
Respectful integrationI am interested in how spiritual, complementary, practical and conventional approaches can speak to each other with integrity.
Dignity & agencyI look for what helps people regain steadiness, choice and a sense of the next step.

My perspective is not purely academic, clinical, spiritual or practical. It is lived and practice-informed—shaped by study, work, observation, responsibility and direct experience with people.

Current interests

Where lived experience, wisdom and formal systems meet

I remain interested in research, discussion and thoughtful dialogue around complementary therapies, spirituality, practical support, disability, wellbeing and the ways different models of care can be integrated with integrity.

I am particularly interested in the meeting place between lived experience, practice-based wisdom, spiritual understanding and formal systems.

Practical, but not shallow.

Personal, but not casual.

Grounded in real life and informed by years of study.

A Bridge To Light is one expression of that wider interest.

A broad background, brought back to practical life

What matters is whether my perspective can help with what is in front of you.

You do not need to decide which part of my background is relevant. We can begin with your situation, talk about what feels difficult and see what kind of support would be most useful.
